SELF-RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE – GOOD OR BAD!

Written by Brian Martin

“Self-righteousness”. This behaviour results in people giving their own point of view more credence than the viewpoints that others express. And this is not necessarily a “bad” thing! But where it leads to problems is where the essential balance between the viewpoints of ourselves and others isn’t maintained. Then we become “captured” by the “rightness” of our own viewpoint, and give it more weight than is healthy for our relationships with those around us. People who are very knowledgeable are particularly at risk for self-righteous behaviour. Self-righteousness is about our unwillingness or inability to accommodate anyone else’s viewpoint. It’s fairly obvious that this damages our relationship with the people who hold those other viewpoints, and this in turn damages our ability to secure and maintain their support for our goals.

Self-righteousness is therefore self-defeating.

If you’re busy being right all the time, then it’s time to realise that the damage this is doing to your relationships isn’t worth it, and that it’s time for a personal shake-up. It’s also time to realise that any damage to your relationships is damage to your accomplishment.

WHAT’S YOUR POINT OF DIFFERENCE

Written by Brian Martin

Brian Martin

What is the point of difference between you and the person who gets the better job, gets the partner they want, and makes more money than you? I do not think it is luck. List the points of difference between you and the people in your life who are beating you across the finish line.

What do you need to do in your life to pass the winning post first? Let me give you a clue. It will start with you doing something: “If it’s to be, it’s up to me.”

To create the life you want, you have to start participating and getting involved 100 percent. Taking a risk is not dangerous. It just requires you to break through the limitations which keep you locked inside your comfort zone.

The Four E's of Success

Written by Brian Martin

In this blog I want to talk again about success. How to make the jobs that you're running successful, and these are what I call the “4E’s”. If you have these 4 E’s” then the ultimate chance of you being successful is guaranteed.

As we go through this exercise, ask yourself the following questions does my project have these 4 E’s?

Energized

The leaders, the managers, the employees need to be energized.

Energizing Others

Are we energizing our employees, our customers, our suppliers, our workmates?

Edge

Do we have the ability to give “yes” “no” answers to make decisions? Trillions of dollars are lost in the US through indecision, procrastination. Is this happening in your organization? Is this happening in your project team? It is better to make the wrong decision, than have no decision at all. Nobody feels their mistake like the person who makes it, and they will quickly put it right once they realize they have made a mistake.

Execute

Deliver your results on time. Deliver against the plan.

“ Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion, you must set yourself on fire”

Let's Talk About Success

Written by Brian Martin

We have built into us a “success mechanism” and a “failure mechanism”.

A failure mechanism is your natural tendency to take the easy road, our impulse to immediate self -- gratification without thinking too much about the long-term results of our actions. This mechanism operates automatically, and it's with us for every minute of the day. Many people follow this path of having the  fun, the easy way, also the convenience of what they do.

The good news is however, you have a success mechanism built into your mind, and your success mechanism has the power and ability to over ride your failure mechanism.

Success in life is triggered by having a goal. The bigger and brighter that you can make this goal, and the more you feel about it, the more you can exert the willpower, the more disciplined you will become in making yourself do what needs to be done, to get where you want to go, and create the outcome that you see for yourself,

I leave you with this thought

“ If it is to be, it's up to me”
