Leadership Investment Needed

Written by Brian Martin

Leaders of the future should be helped to increase their opportunities.  Bring people up through the ranks as quickly as possible, however do make sure that they are trained and equipped to take bigger positions.

Waiting in line to be promoted is a thing of the past, people need to be given opportunities for advancement for filling bigger and better jobs.

When good proven leaders are becoming close to retirement age and have been proven to be a great leader, they should work as a mentor and coach.  Older people too, need and want to have a purpose so that their life has satisfaction and there is nothing more fulfilling than helping people to grow and develop.  Do this and you will get a strong increase in people’s performance.

The Most Extinct Species – Committed and Dedicated Leaders

Written by Brian Martin

There has never been a greater need for leadership in the world than today.
Just cast your mind around the world and we see not a very happy or wonderful picture.
Economic, social and environmental events and activities do not seem to be working well.
There are riots, civil disobedience in many countries across the globe.

People are not happy with their leaders.  Approximately 60% of people want to change their job, and approximately 85% of people are not satisfied with the work they are doing and feel that they are capable to do more, but not given opportunities.  Again, this requires leadership.  I have heard many times over the course of my working life, ‘People are an organization’s biggest asset’, but then do very little to leverage that asset.
Two things make money,

‘Money makes money’

‘People make money’

During this severe financial crisis, it would have been a perfect time for organizations to review how they were utilizing their people and looking for new ways to leverage productivity, and I do not mean, taking three jobs/positions and reducing them to two.  There is nothing new or innovative about cutting headcount.  This is where most of us go, when we are told that we have to cut costs.  We also cut the training budgets, at the very time when we should be developing our employees, to some different behaviors.  Obviously this is something many leaders do not realise as an opportunity and a must.
We should be looking to have leadership inside organizations that harness the brain power to activate and create transformation behavior.
We need authentic leaders, which is about a way of being, that is visible for employees to see.

It is not rocket science for leaders to take an interest in their people.
We only have to ask the question ‘How would I like my boss to treat me’ and then behave against your answers.
I have said many times, there are NOT eight to ten skills of leadership.
I do acknowledge, that are eight to ten behaviors that will considerably enhance your leadership results.

In 1989, when we started to teach our ‘Leadership and Communication’ programmes, we were the only company that used the word ‘leadership’.
Everyone else used the word ‘management’.

Today there are 2500 organizations in the same territory teaching leadership.  Sorry to sound skeptical, but many of the people running these programmes have had zero experience in leading anything, other than themselves, which is a start, I suppose.
The opportunity, possibility and challenge for business is to seek out and operate in new and different ways, maybe a need to be socially responsible.
This is a good time for those of you who have the courage, tenacity and want to make a difference, to look at starting your own venture, whatever it is.
Passion is a requirement for you to have, and if you can find a product and service, that adds value to people’s lives, so that you ‘love what you do’ and ‘do what you love’ and be a possibility thinker.
There is a high possibility that you will be successful.

So if you are in the 60% who want to change their job, or the 85% who feel they are capable of doing more with their talent.
Now just might be the right time for you to be that leader, the world so badly needs.

Now is the Time to Start Your Journey as an Entrepreneur

Written by Brian Martin

Be your own boss, start a small business, a home business, join a multi-level marketing business.  Do something that will put you in charge of YOUR talent.

You know very well that you have more talent and capabilities, than you are using.

Why don’t you take a RISK and jump into the driver’s seat of ‘YOUR LIFE’ and DECIDE what you want for your life?  Do you know that all SUCCESSFUL people have an ability to decide and make decisions?

Unsuccessful people have great difficulty in deciding and making decisions.  They procrastinate, does this sound like you?  Do not feel embarrassed, this is the behavior of most people.  But it is not good enough is it?  NOT making a decision, not deciding, will not get you what you want.

If you want to start your own business, I am going to give you eight steps, eight keys, eight behaviors, eight ingredients that you will need to be successful in starting your own business.

They are NOT rocket science, they are plain common sense.  You probably know these things.  You, up until now, have not practiced using them.  I have been using them since I was 18 years old, which allowed me to start my first business when I was 20 years old, which led me to being able to buy my first apartment house, when I was 21 years old.

If you need to read my bio, which shows I am credible to share this information with you, will show you I graduated from small business to CEO of multinational corporations.

You will notice as you read and hopefully practice the eight steps, is that they are ALL important and they are all interdependent on one another, for your success.

Number 1

Every successful business needs to have a vision, a dream, and an aspiration.

Research shows that organizations that have a vision make considerably more profit than those businesses that do not have a vision.  This of itself is an important reason for having one.  ‘Making money’

What is a vision, a dream, an aspiration and why is it important to have one.

To have a dream, is much more powerful than most of us realise.

A dream is like us having a destination, a target, something we are aiming for, something for us to aspire to.  If this is clear, it then becomes something we are ‘inspired’ with.  Inspired means to be ‘in spirit’, it becomes the essence of who we are.

Vision is the big picture of possibilities of what could be.  A vision if we achieve it is our future success.  If a vision is compelling, it almost has a magnetic force that draws us to it.

A vision is a powerful motivator, if we have employees, yes even one employee.

We all want to belong, and if your staff can see their company’s vision, is something they can relate to, then they want to come to work, because it is part of who they are.

Coming to work becomes a ‘want to’ not a ‘have to’.  A vision for your company will probably be about a product or service you want to provide to people, which will add value to their life.

You might like to do this little test?

What would you chose to do, if you could NOT fail.  This should give you a strong clue of what type of product or service, that you might like to get your live involved in.

A vision is an image of the future, it is not yet real.  It is a dream that you can aspire to in your mind.  Many people undervalue or do not understand the power of the mind.

Communication is very important in sharing your vision to your employees, family, and suppliers.

It needs to be communicated in such a way that people can see value in it for themselves, then they will willingly commit their time, energy and resources to your vision and it becomes their vision.

The vision then becomes the foundation of a strong corporate profile.

It can become the heart of your organization and what your organization stands for.

Vision creates alignment, which is very powerful.  It means everyone is moving positively forward, working in cooperation, to achieve the vision.

It helps to build confidence, many businesses develop a slogan around their vision.

A vision keeps us focused, it gives us a discipline to create objectives and strategies to achieve the vision.  In other words, vision can help us to pursue our dreams, our future opportunities.

  • Vision without action, is merely a dream
  • Action without vision, just passes the time
  • Vision with action, can change the world

The Importance of Decision Making Decide

Written by Brian Martin

Decide What?

What you want.

This does not seem to be such an easy thing to do.

Almost everybody seems to know what they do NOT want, but not so many people know what they do want.

How about you?

The good news is you have decided you maybe interested to start your own business, so you have taken step one.

How do you walk 100 miles, one step at a time, so you are on your way, well done.

You will need to DECIDE clearly, what you want.  This is where having a vision, dream and an aspiration is so powerful, because it creates a clear picture of what you want this business to be about and where you want it to go.

You need to be clear about what business, goods and services, are you really in?

Selling toys to children, you tell me!

Yes, this may be partially true, but won’t you want your products to have a positive experience for the child, so it teaches them something, maybe the important lesson, of loving something.  Maybe a product that creates a bridge to communication, between parent and child.

I think many Walt Disney products demonstrate this clearly, and their products deepen and strengthen relationships with and through their famous Disney characters.

How about your business?  Is it going to be more than just something to make you money?

I think so, if you are going to be successful.

You will also need to decide specifically, what you want.  This is where the details for your business come in, you might call it a plan.

Ask the question ‘What products am I really selling?’

You also need to decide, if I am going to start this business I am going to be positive about its success.

If your head is full of negative thinking, doubt about the viability and self doubt about your own ability, I doubt that you are going to succeed.  You need to have confidence, in who you are, and what you are planning to do.

This is usually an exciting time, emotionally.  Here is an important question for you to think about and then write your thoughts down.

In two years time, what do I want my product and service to be famous for?  You need to build a reputation.  This should also additionally help you in defining what business you are really in.

Let me share with you, why it is so important to DECIDE.

Successful people make decisions, they DECIDE.  Unsuccessful people procrastinate and do not make decisions.

When you decide it increases your personal power, and your confidence.

When you decide you select a course of action, as opposed to doing nothing.

When you decide, it can be like making a promise to yourself.

Decision making is essential to leadership.  Leaders have to make decision.  If you want to own your own business, you must be a leader.

This is your life not a dress rehearsal – DECIDE.

Do Not Wait for Something to Happen - Take Action!

Written by Brian Martin

I have noticed over the years that when people are working in the same company, after three or four leadership programs, nothing seems to change.

Because so many people have had life-changing experiences, participants inside the same organization quite often sit around without doing anything, expecting a bolt of lightning to strike and that they will be transformed.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way - you are not going to make much work in your life without participation.

All the best ideas come out of the process we’ve used.  They come out of the work itself.  That's when things will occur to you.

If you are sitting around trying to dream up a good idea, you may be sitting there for a long time. Maybe something will happen and maybe it won’t.

Just get to work and something will occur to you.

Good luck!
