A Plan For Your Future

Written by Brian Martin

During my Levi’s Jeans days, as country manager of Japan and New Zealand and as the Area Chief Executive of ALL the Asian countries, we did an annual plan and a five-year Long Range Business Plan (LRBP). We were required to list the objectives we wanted to accomplish for the business we were in charge of, the stratagies we would employ to achieve, the objectives we set for ourselves.  Then a list of the action steps we would take to get to where we were going.

I realise I was quite blessed to have had this discipline as part of my job as a Chief Executive.

I have been able to use these steps of:
• Deciding what my intentions are
• Deciding what will be my strategies I will employ
• Developing my action steps for each strategy that will move me towards accomplishing my results

Over these three points is the guiding principle of being Clear, Specific and Passionate about what you want to do, to be what you want to be, starting with the end in mind, the result and outcome you want. Then come back to ‘now’.  Decide on the strategies you will use, then develop action plans to move forward.

Many people are so involved with the process, the "how tos" and they do not know where they are going!  What a waste of energy!

Please make a list of intentions. Think about what are some of the strategies you will use that will get you to where you want to go? Then decide what action steps you will take!
