In many restructuring, reorganizing, what is totally missing is the context of the environment and the foundation of what the organization is about. Minimal attention is placed on getting people to understand what is the purpose, the reason for being of our organization.
What is the big picture of the possibilities of what this organization could be, and what are its values, how do we want to behave with each other. If those three things were clearly identified, then we would develop a totally different set of relationships, which would be based on our behaviors and attitudes, to creating the vision, and living our purpose. Communication and information sharing would change. There is still a strong belief that knowledge is power, and the person who holds that knowledge wields the power. I would suggest that this is definitely incorrect. Information needs to be shared, so very often we forget that we're all on the same team, the same family. It becomes “them against us”, instead of striving for a “One house, one family”.
