Your Purpose in Life

Written by Brian Martin

I want you to spend today focusing on your purpose in life.  This is like discovering your internal power source, tapping into the battery that drives you.

What is your reason for being? I have mentioned previously that there is no copy of us and that we all have at least one talent that we can do better than anyone else.

Looking at your life, is there something that does not change? That is your purpose. This is what adds a sense of meaning to your life, this is your reason for being. Maybe you’re already living your purpose? It’s what you stand for. It’s what makes your life fulfilling and have meaning.

When you were a little girl or boy, what did you want to be or do? When I grew up we had no TV. We had only books, and there was this true famous story about two men, Mr Stanley and Dr Livingstone. They worked in Africa when it was very primitive to help the African people with terrible diseases they were subject to. At 10 years-old I was so impressed by this story that I decided to be a missionary and go to Africa to help the African people have a better quality of life.

When I was 14 and 15, I wanted to become a doctor in the navy. My thoughts again were to heal people and to improve their quality of life and also to learn about people in other countries.

Well, I didn’t get to be a naval doctor. But I did get to be a sailor and go to other countries, and I had been twice round the world by the time I was 18.

I did, however, become a doctor of sick businesses, and was responsible for leading three major turnarounds - getting those businesses to be healthy and adding value to their employees, providing job security and emotional stability.  And I like to think making a happier and fun workplace!

I have committed my life to assisting and supporting people, to have a better quality of life, so they in turn may help others. My purpose is very fulfilling for me. I love what I do and do what I love.

I feel blessed and privileged that life allows me to be in service. I am very grateful, to live the life I chose.

So, how about you? What is your driving force? In other words, your reason for being, your purpose?

"Hi Brain,
I really like this post. Yes, indeed we have a choice, we do have a choice to be evil or good. Smile...a choice of being responsible or not.
May we all have a Happy life.. Laughing"
